Pentair IntelliValve 24V Valve Actuator

Stop choosing between “spa” and “waterfall”. Set the exact split you want, and have the valve return to it every single time.

Every pool with a water feature runs into the same wall. The old cam-and-microswitch actuator only knows two positions: hard left and hard right. Full flow to the spa, or full flow to the fountain. Anything in between is a screwdriver, a guess, and a job you have to redo the next time somebody bumps the valve.

The IntelliValve replaces the cams with electronics. You drive the diverter to the position you actually want, press Save, and that becomes an end point the actuator returns to on command — no cams, no limit switches, no guesswork.

💰 The saving: one pump can now run two features

The usual fix for “my waterfall is too strong when the spa jets are on” is a second pump, extra plumbing, and another relay in the panel. Installed, that is rarely a small number.

Because the diverter can be parked part-open in 3.75° steps across its full 180° swing, you can balance flow between two features off a single pump and save that position permanently. The pump you already own does the work of two.

There is a second, quieter saving. On a conventional actuator, the two limit microswitches are the classic failure point — they wear, they stick, and when one fails the valve either stalls mid-travel or drives against its stop. That is a callout, a diagnosis and usually a replacement unit. The IntelliValve has no cams and no microswitches to fail, and the housing is sealed against weather rather than relying on a lid that has to be opened every time somebody adjusts a setting.

Pool and spa combinations

Intake and return valves that switch cleanly between pool and spa, with repeatable end points that do not drift as cams wear.

Waterfalls, sheer descents and spillways

This is the headline use. Set a partial diverter position and dial the sheer descent to the look you want, rather than the flat-out blast you get from a fully open valve. Save it, and it comes back to exactly that every time the feature is called.

Two features, one pump

Split flow between a bubbler and a deck jet, or a fountain and a scupper, at a fixed ratio you choose once.

Solar and in-floor cleaning circuits

Divert to solar or to an in-floor cleaner on schedule, with a partial-flow position available if the circuit needs throttling.

Retrofit and compatibility

This is a direct swap, not a system change. The IntelliValve fits industry-standard diverter valve bodies and is a straight retrofit for the older cam-type actuators, including the CVA-24T style unit.

EasyTouch and IntelliTouch systems each drive up to four actuators. Two of those outputs are dedicated to the pool/spa intake and return valves; Valve A and Valve B are general purpose, for solar, water features or an in-floor cleaner.

Setting it up

Wiring is unchanged from the actuator you are replacing: a three-pin 24 V power cable into the valve socket on your automation board. Programming happens on the pad.

• AUTO — normal running. The actuator responds to the automation panel.
• SET — drive the diverter to your first end point with the arrow buttons and press Save, then drive to the second end point and press Save again. Done.
• SERVICE — move the diverter to any position other than the two saved ones, for maintenance or testing.
• OFF — actuator ignores the panel.

If the valve ends up working backwards to what the panel expects, pressing both arrow buttons together in AUTO swaps which saved position is treated as home. That is the modern equivalent of flicking the toggle switch on an old actuator to re-sync it — one button press instead of a trip back to the pad with a screwdriver.

Questions we get asked

Do I need Pentair automation to use it?

No. It runs on 24 VAC like any standard actuator and works with any 24 V pool and spa control system. You do not have to be on the Pentair platform to benefit from it.

Will it fit my existing valve, or do I need a new valve too?

The actuator alone is almost always enough. It mounts on standard Pentair, Compool, Ortega and Jandy diverter bodies from 1.5″ to 3″, 2-way or 3-way. If your existing actuator unscrews from the top of the valve, this one screws on in its place.

Is the wiring any different?

No. Same three-pin 24 V connection into the same valve socket on your panel. The intelligence sits inside the actuator, so nothing about the panel side changes.

Why is it more expensive than a basic actuator?

It is not by much — and the difference buys you partial-flow positions, sealed construction, and the removal of the microswitches that cause most actuator failures. If it saves you one callout, or saves you fitting a second pump, it has more than paid for itself.

Can I still move the valve by hand if I need to?

Yes. SERVICE mode lets you drive the diverter to any position you like without disturbing your saved end points.

How long does setup take?

Minutes. Mount it, plug it in, put it in SET mode, drive to each end point and press Save. The instructions are printed on the unit itself, so the next person to touch it is not left guessing.
