💆 Balboa VL260 Topside Control Panel (4-Button Mini Oval LCD, Clear Bezel, Without Overlay) — Compatible with Balboa Duplex VS/GS “Z” Spa Pack Systems

Genuine Balboa Water Group VL Series Duplex replacement panel — compact, versatile control trusted by major spa brands worldwide.

📋 Product Overview

The Balboa Water Group VL260 is a compact 4-button mini oval topside control panel with a backlit LCD display, designed for spas running Balboa Duplex spa pack control systems — specifically the VS/GS series ending in plain “Z”. Also widely known as the MVP260 (the two designations refer to the same physical panel), it’s one of Balboa’s most universally-deployed topsides — used industry-wide for years across an extensive list of major spa brands. This is the clear bezel variant — the modern replacement for older grey, white, and clear trim variants of the same panel.

This listing is for the panel without overlay — ideal for spa technicians, OEM hot tub builders, and homeowners who plan to transfer their existing button overlay or order an overlay sticker that matches their spa’s exact configuration. The VL260’s flexibility comes from its broad overlay support: 11521 (Blower/Jets/Temp/Light) used in DreamMaker 2013-2015 and Artesian Spas, 11725 (Jets/Jets/Temp/Light) used in QCA Spas, 11724 and 1328 (3-button Jets/Temp/Light) used in Cal Spas and Viking Spas, 11746 and 1289 (4-button with Cool/Warm temperature buttons), and several other 3-button and 4-button layouts.

The VL260’s defining strength is its versatility across spa brands and configurations — it’s the factory-original or factory-equivalent topside on DreamMaker, Artesian, QCA Spas, Cal Spas, Viking Spa, Gulf Coast Spas, Centurion Spas, Garden Leisure Spas, Shoreline Spas, Cool Nights Spas, Premium Leisure, Hydro Spa, St. Lucia, and the popular Living Water spas sold at Costco. Its compact 7″ × 2-1/8″ mini oval form factor fits where larger oval panels won’t, making it ideal for space-constrained spa shells. Genuine Balboa Water Group OEM panel with the standard 8-pin phone-style RJ45 connector and adhesive foam rubber gasket for installation.

🔄 Compatibility Guide

This Topside is Compatible With Balboa VS/GS “Z” Spa Packs:

Spa Pack Model	Series	Confirmed
Balboa VS300Z	VS Z-series	✅

Understanding the VL Series Naming Convention:

📌 Balboa’s VL panel naming follows a specific letter-suffix logic:

• VL260 and other VL panels with no letter suffix → Work with VS/GS systems ending in plain “Z” (NOT SZ or DZ)
• VL Panels ending in “S” → Work with VS/GS systems ending in “SZ”
• VL Panels ending in “D” → Work with VS/GS systems ending in “DZ”

Used As Factory-Original or Factory-Equivalent on These Major Spa Brands:

The VL260 is one of the most widely-deployed Balboa topsides — used on an unusually broad range of spa brands:

• ✅ DreamMaker Spas — Used on 2013-2015 models with overlay 11521 (Blower/Jets/Temp/Light)
• ✅ Artesian Spas — Direct factory equivalent (part OP11-0167-08)
• ✅ QCA Spas — Used with overlay 11725 (Jets/Jets/Temp/Light) on 2-pump models
• ✅ Cal Spas — Used with 3-button overlay 11724 or 1328 (Jets/Temp/Light)

• ✅ Living Water Spas (Costco) — Direct factory equivalent

Replaces These Older Topside Part Numbers:

The VL260 (G8226) is the consolidated modern replacement for an extensive list of older Balboa part numbers across all trim color variants:

• ✅ Balboa G8226 (current manufacturer part number for VL260 clear bezel without overlay)
• ✅ Balboa 53999 (Clear Trim, No Overlay — same panel)
• ✅ Balboa 54268 (Clear Trim variant)
• ✅ Balboa 53645 (with overlay variant — replaces this one too)
• ✅ Balboa 53646 (Grey Trim, No Overlay — older trim variant)
• ✅ Balboa 53637 (White Trim, No Overlay — older trim variant)
• ✅ Balboa 53566 (White Trim variant)

• ✅ Older “S/N 33600 Panel, E4” markings on legacy units
• ✅ Companion overlay numbers 11521, 11724, 11725, 11746 plus additional layouts (see Overlay Replacement section)

NOT Compatible With:

• ❌ Balboa VS/GS systems ending in “SZ” — those need a VL panel ending in “S” (like the VL702S)
• ❌ Balboa VS/GS systems ending in “DZ” — those need a VL panel ending in “D”
• ❌ Balboa VS513Z, GS513Z, or GS515Z spa packs — those need the VL400 (larger oval)
• ❌ Balboa BP series spa packs (BP100, BP501, BP601, BP2000, BP2100, BP7) — those use 4-pin Molex connectors, not RJ45
• ❌ Balboa EL or GL series spa packs — those use 8-pin Molex connectors (use ML series topsides)
• ❌ Older Balboa M7-only systems that pre-date the Duplex Z architecture
• ❌ Gecko, ACC, or non-Balboa control systems
• ❌ Pneumatic / air-button (Tecmark Command Center, EasyPak) systems

⚠️ Important — VL260 vs Smaller Mini E4 Panels: Some older spas have a “Mini E4” panel that may look similar to the VL260 but with different dimensions. Always confirm your existing panel measures 7″ × 2-1/8″ before ordering — older “Mini E4” variants may have slightly different cutout requirements.

How to Verify Compatibility:

📍 Check your spa pack model — look for a label inside the equipment cabinet 📍 Confirm the model ends in plain “Z” (e.g., VS300Z, VS500Z, VS501Z, GS501Z) — NOT “SZ” or “DZ” 📍 Check that your existing topside cable has an RJ45 8-wire connector — looks like an Ethernet/network cable plug 📍 Compare your old topside dimensions to 7″ × 2-1/8″ mini oval 📍 Look for any of the older part numbers stamped on the back of your existing panel — many older numbers consolidate into the VL260 (G8226) 📍 Identify your spa’s pump and accessory configuration (1 pump, 2 pumps, 1 pump + blower) to choose the right overlay 📍 If your existing panel has grey or white trim, the modern VL260 has clear trim — functionality is identical 📍 Contact Parts4Tubs with your spa pack model number if you’re unsure

🔘 Button Functions & Display

🛠️ Installation Guide

Before Installation:

• ⚠️ Disconnect power at the GFCI breaker before any work
• ⚠️ Confirm your spa pack is a Balboa VS/GS system ending in plain “Z” (not “SZ” or “DZ”)
• ⚠️ Verify the 6-foot cable will reach from the topside cutout to the spa pack — order an extension cable if needed
• ⚠️ Have your replacement overlay ready (or carefully transfer the existing one)
• ⚠️ Confirm your overlay matches your spa’s pump and accessory configuration

Installation Steps:

1. Power Down — Turn off all power to your hot tub at the GFCI / disconnect (safety first!)
2. Remove Old Panel — Carefully remove your old control panel by gently prying it away from the spa shell
3. Open the spa cabinet and locate the topside RJ45 cable on the spa pack
4. Disconnect the old cable from the spa pack’s RJ45 jack — press the small plastic tab and pull straight out
5. Prepare the Surface — Clean the mounting area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and allow it to dry completely
6. Carefully transfer the existing overlay to the new panel (or apply your new overlay sticker — align carefully over the button positions and LCD display window)
7. Test Fit — Before removing the adhesive backing, test-fit the panel to ensure proper alignment
8. Route the new cable through the cabinet to the spa pack
9. Plug the new RJ45 connector into the spa pack’s topside port — the tab should click into place
10. Install Panel — Remove the adhesive backing from the foam rubber gasket and firmly press the panel into place, holding for 30 seconds to ensure proper adhesion
11. Restore power at the breaker
12. Test all functions — every active button on your overlay, plus verify the LCD is backlit and all functions cycle correctly

Mounting:

Requirement	Specification
Panel size	7″ × 2-1/8″ (mini oval)
Mounting type	Self-adhesive foam rubber gasket / drop-in
Compatible adapter plate	BWG Lite Duplex 8-9/16″ × 3-1/2″ (if needed for non-standard cutouts)

⚠️ Professional installation by a competent individual or tradesman trained in spa equipment is recommended. All work must comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes. Topside controls cannot be returned once opened or installed — verify fitment before opening packaging.

⚡ Wiring & Connection

Connector Information:

Specification	Detail
Connector Type	RJ45 8-Wire (8-Pin Phone Plug / Ethernet Style)
Cable Length	6 ft standard
Extension Available	Yes — Balboa 8-conductor RJ45 extension cables in 3ft and 10ft lengths

Connection Location:

Plugs into the dedicated RJ45 topside port on Balboa VS/GS Duplex spa packs
ending in plain "Z" (VS300Z, VS500Z, VS501Z, GS501Z, and other Z-suffix systems).
The connector looks like a standard Ethernet / network cable plug.
A small plastic latch holds the plug in place — press to release.

⚠️ Never force the connector. The RJ45 plug should slide in cleanly with a click. If it doesn’t fit, your spa pack is likely a BP, EL, or GL series (which use Molex connectors instead) — verify before proceeding.

🔍 Troubleshooting

Common Issues:

Problem	Possible Cause	Solution
Blank LCD	No power or loose connection	Verify breaker on; reseat the RJ45 plug at the spa pack
Error codes shown	Spa pack issue (sensor, flow, heater)	Refer to your VS/GS Duplex spa pack manual for code meanings
Wrong button functions	Overlay doesn’t match spa configuration	Order a different overlay layout to match your pump/blower setup
No response from any button (panel powered)	Suffix mismatch — VL260 installed on SZ or DZ system	Verify spa pack — VL260 requires plain “Z” systems only
Backlight doesn’t activate	Backlight fault or voltage issue	Verify cable connection; replacement may be needed
Aux/Blower button doesn’t work	Spa pack not configured for blower	Check spa pack DIP switch or configuration
One pump button doesn’t respond	Spa pack may be configured for 1 pump	Verify spa pack pump configuration

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the overlay included? A: No — this listing is for the topside panel only, without the overlay sticker. You can either transfer the overlay from your existing panel or purchase a function-specific overlay separately. With 8+ overlay layouts available (11521, 11725, 11746, 1289, 1329, 2000, 1328, 11724), the VL260 covers virtually every common spa configuration.

Q: How do I know which overlay I need? A: Match the overlay to your spa’s pump and accessory configuration:

• 1 pump + air blower → overlay 11521 (Blower/Jets/Temp/Light)
• 2 jet pumps → overlay 11725 or 2000 (Jets/Jets/Temp/Light)
• 1 jet pump only → overlay 1328 or 11724 (3-button: Jet/Temp/Light)
• 1 pump with separate Cool/Warm buttons → overlay 11746 (Jets/Light/Cool/Warm)
• Other configurations → overlay 1289 (P1/Lt/Cool/Warm) or 1329 (Bl/P1/Temp/Light)

If you’re unsure, send Parts4Tubs a photo of your existing topside.

Q: What’s the difference between VL260 and MVP260? A: VL260 and MVP260 are two designations for the same physical panel. Older marketing referred to it as MVP260 (the original model name); newer marketing uses VL260 (aligning with Balboa’s VL Series naming). The OEM part numbers and physical panel are identical — the names are interchangeable.

Q: What’s the “Mini E4” or “S/N 33600 Panel, E4” marking? A: Some older variants of this panel were marked “Mini E4” or “S/N 33600 Panel, E4” — these are internal Balboa designations from earlier production runs. They refer to the same physical panel as the modern VL260/MVP260. Always confirm the 7″ × 2-1/8″ dimensions before ordering, as some other “Mini E4” variants existed with slightly different sizes.

Q: Why is the bezel color different from my existing panel? A: This is the clear bezel variant — the modern replacement for older grey trim (53646), white trim (53637, 53566), and earlier clear trim (53999, 54268) variants. Functionality is identical across all trim colors; only the bezel appearance differs. The clear trim gives a cleaner modern look while still installing in the same cutout.

Q: How is the VL260 different from other VL panels? A: The VL260 is the smallest 4-button VL panel:

• VL200 — 4-3/8″ × 1-5/8″ mini-oval (smallest, most compact)
• VL240 — 5-1/4″ × 1-15/16″ mini-oval
• VL260 — 7″ × 2-1/8″ mini oval (this panel — most widely deployed)
• VL400 — 7-9/16″ × 2-5/16″ oval
• VL406T — 7″ × 3-7/16″ elongated oval

The VL260 is wider than VL200/VL240 but more compact than the larger oval and rectangular VL panels — making it the sweet spot for spas with limited topside cutout space but full 4-button functionality requirements.

Q: Will this work with my Cal Spa, Viking Spa, DreamMaker, Artesian, QCA Spa, or other major brand? A: Very likely yes — the VL260 is one of Balboa’s most universally-deployed topsides. Confirmed factory or factory-equivalent installations include DreamMaker (2013-2015), Artesian, QCA, Cal Spas, Viking, Gulf Coast, Centurion, Garden Leisure (2006-2008), Shoreline (2006-2008), Cool Nights, Premium Leisure, Hydro Spa, St. Lucia, and Living Water (Costco). Verify your spa pack model and panel dimensions before ordering.

Q: What systems does the VL260 work with? A: The VL260 works with Balboa VS/GS Duplex spa packs ending in plain “Z” — confirmed compatibility includes VS300Z, VS500Z, VS501Z, and GS501Z. The “no letter suffix” on the VL260 means it pairs with plain-Z systems (not SZ or DZ variants).

Q: What does “Duplex” mean? A: “Duplex” is Balboa’s designation for spa pack control systems that can manage two motors or accessories — typically 2 pumps, or 1 pump + blower. The VL260 is designed to provide topside control for these Duplex configurations, with overlay options matching every common 1- or 2-motor combination.

Q: How is the VL260 different from the BP-series TP topsides (TP200W, TP240, TP500S, etc.)? A: Different control architectures entirely:

• VL260 uses an RJ45 8-wire (Ethernet-style) connector and works with Balboa VS/GS Duplex spa packs
• TP-series topsides use a 4-pin Molex connector and work with Balboa BP series spa packs

They’re not interchangeable — your spa pack must be designed for one or the other.

Q: My old part is one of the older Balboa numbers (53645, 53646, 53637, 53999, 54268). Will the VL260 replace it? A: Yes — the VL260 (G8226) is the modern consolidated replacement for these older Balboa part numbers. The trim color may be different (older variants were grey or white; the modern VL260 has clear trim), but the physical panel, electrical interface, and mounting are identical.

Q: My existing cable is 10 feet or 25 feet. Can I still use this 6-foot panel? A: Yes, but you may need an extension cable to achieve the same reach as your original installation. The older 53777 had a 10ft cable; the older 50063 had a 25ft cable. Balboa offers RJ45 extension cables in 3ft and 10ft lengths to bridge any gap.

Q: Are the buttons backlit? A: The LCD display is backlit for visibility in low-light or evening spa use. Button labeling visibility depends on the overlay applied — the panel’s white-LCD-on-dark-background readout remains visible in any condition.

Q: Can I install this myself if I’ve never worked on a hot tub before? A: For VL260 installation, basic DIY skill is sufficient:

1. The self-adhesive foam rubber gasket makes panel application straightforward
2. The RJ45 connector only fits one way — you can’t get it backward
3. Test-fit before peeling the adhesive backing to ensure proper alignment
4. The hardest part is safely shutting off power at the GFCI breaker — if you’re not comfortable with that, hire a licensed electrician for the power-off step at minimum

Q: My old part says G8226 — is this the same? A: Yes. G8226 is the manufacturer part number for the VL260 clear bezel without overlay. This listing is the direct equivalent.

Q: Will this work with my 120V or 240V spa? A: Yes — the topside itself runs on low-voltage signal from the spa pack, so it works regardless of whether your spa pack is wired for 120V or 240V service.

Q: My spa only has 3 buttons on the existing overlay. Can I still use this 4-button panel? A: Yes — the VL260 physically has 4 buttons, but it’s designed to work with both 4-button and 3-button overlays. Using a 3-button overlay (like 1328 or 11724) leaves the 4th button position covered and inactive. The overlay determines which buttons are visible and labeled.

With its compact 7″ × 2-1/8″ footprint, modern clear bezel, backlit LCD display, RJ45 8-wire connector, 6-foot cable, self-adhesive foam rubber gasket mounting, and choice of 8+ overlay layouts (11521 for DreamMaker/Artesian, 11725 for QCA, 11746 with Cool/Warm, 1328/11724 for Cal Spas/Viking, 1289/1329 for alternates), it’s one of Balboa’s most universally-deployed topsides — used as the factory-original or factory-equivalent panel on DreamMaker, Artesian, QCA Spas, Cal Spas, Viking Spa, Gulf Coast Spas, Centurion Spas, Garden Leisure, Shoreline, Cool Nights, Premium Leisure, Hydro Spa, St. Lucia, and Living Water (Costco) — 14+ major spa brands.
