📋 Product Overview

The HydroQuip Ultimate Plus circuit board (MPN 33-0025A-R8, Revision 8) is a factory-original OEM replacement PCB for the HydroQuip PS-9700 Series spa control system, manufactured specifically for Baja Spas and Whitewater Spas. This “Digital MP Universal 10-Key” board is built on HydroQuip’s versatile MP (Multi-Pump) platform and supports up to three pumps, a circulation pump, blower, ozonator, auxiliary output, and fiber optics or lighting — all operated through a 10-button HT-2 topside control panel.

HydroQuip (a Balboa Water Group brand) designed the 9700 series as one of their most capable residential spa control platforms. The Ultimate Plus designation indicates the full-featured OEM variant used by Baja Spas and Whitewater Spas. This board is the Rev. 8 production version, representing mature, stable firmware for these systems.

The PS-9704 schematic applies to this board’s enclosure/wiring configuration. Temperature and hi-limit sensors are not included and must be purchased separately — the 4-pin HydroQuip sensor is required for units manufactured after May 2003.

🛁 Board Functions

System Output Summary:

Output	Supported
Pump 1 (Primary)	✅ Yes
Pump 2 (Secondary)	✅ Yes
Pump 3 / Blower	✅ Yes
Circulation Pump	✅ Yes
Blower	✅ Yes
Auxiliary Circuit	✅ Yes
Ozonator	✅ Yes

Topside Control Note: This board is designed for the HT-2 10-button large rectangle topside panel. The 10-button layout provides individual controls for each output — reducing the need for mode-cycling to access functions. A 10-button panel is required; the system will not operate properly with fewer buttons.

MSPA-to-MP Upgrade Note: If your spa was previously equipped with an older MSPA (Multi-Speed Pump Actuator) style circuit board, it can be upgraded to the MP (Multi-Pump) platform using the MSPA to MP Update Kit (59-355-1102). This kit includes a transformer and sensor and converts the spa’s control wiring to the MP standard. Contact Parts4Tubs for upgrade guidance before ordering this conversion kit.

Surge Protection: HydroQuip recommends surge protection for spa control systems. The Intermatic 115V/230V surge protector (60-155-1005) is available from Parts4Tubs and is listed as a recommended accessory for this board.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do sensors come with this board? A: No. Temperature and hi-limit sensors are sold separately. For spas manufactured after May 2003, order HydroQuip sensor PN 59-355-1020 (10ft, 3/8″ dia., 4-pin). Contact Parts4Tubs to confirm the correct sensor for your spa.

Q: My spa has an 8-button topside. Will this board work? A: No. This board requires a 10-button HT-2 topside control panel. An 8-button panel will not give access to all functions and is not compatible with this board’s software.

Q: What is the MSPA to MP Update Kit (59-355-1102)? A: It is a conversion kit for upgrading an older MSPA (Multi-Speed Pump Actuator) spa control system to the newer MP (Multi-Pump) platform that this board uses. It includes a transformer and sensor to complete the conversion. If your spa currently has an MP-style board (33-0025A or 33-0010 series), you likely do not need this kit — it is for older MSPA systems.

Q: What is the difference between 33-0025A-R8 and 33-0025A-K? A: The 33-0025A-R8 is the original HydroQuip OEM board used in Baja Spas and Whitewater Spas with the OEM processor. The 33-0025A-K is the current production version (made by Gecko, EasyPak EP3000 compatible) that replaces the R8. For a like-for-like OEM replacement in your Baja or Whitewater Spa, the 33-0025A-R8 is the direct match. Contact Parts4Tubs for guidance on which to choose.

Q: Is a surge protector recommended? A: Yes. HydroQuip recommends surge protection for their spa control systems. The Intermatic 115V/230V surge protector (60-155-1005) is listed as a recommended accessory.

Q: What warranty is included? A: HydroQuip warrants this product to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. The warranty covers repair or replacement of the defective part. It excludes normal wear, freezing, low voltage, chemical damage, accident, negligence, improper installation or alteration. Contact Parts4Tubs for full warranty terms.
