💆 Balboa SpaTouch3 Touchscreen Topside (Clear Frame) — Compatible with Balboa BP Series Spa Packs

Genuine Balboa Water Group color touchscreen panel — advanced control technology for your relaxation needs.

💧 Product Overview

The Balboa Water Group SpaTouch3 is a premium full-color capacitive touchscreen topside control designed for Balboa BP Series spa pack control systems. Unlike traditional button-based topsides, the SpaTouch3 ships as a complete unit with no separate overlay required — every control is rendered on the brilliant color touchscreen and updates dynamically based on your spa’s configuration.

This listing is for the clear-frame square version of the SpaTouch3 (Balboa part G8535-03— the current production revision, equivalent to the earlier G8535 and G8535-01 part numbers. The clear bezel gives the panel a clean, premium look that blends well with most spa shell colors.

The SpaTouch3 represents a substantial generational leap over Balboa’s button-based panels, offering iPhone-like capacitive touch responsiveness that works reliably even with wet hands, a vivid color display significantly brighter than the SpaTouch2, and a quick-access sleep button. It’s used as factory equipment on dozens of premium spa brands and is the recommended replacement for all earlier SpaTouch1 and SpaTouch2 panels.

NOT Compatible With:

• ❌ Balboa EL or GL series spa packs (use ML series topsides instead — those use 8-pin Molex)
• ❌ Balboa VS or GS series spa packs (use VL series topsides)
• ❌ Gecko, HydroQuip (proprietary), ACC, or non-Balboa control systems
• ❌ Any spa pack without a 4-pin Molex topside port

How to Verify Compatibility:

📍 Check your spa pack model — look for a label inside the equipment cabinet 📍 Confirm the prefix is “BP” (e.g., BP501G1, BP2000, BP7) 📍 Check that your existing topside cable has a 4-pin Molex connector (NOT 8-pin) 📍 Compare your old topside to the SpaTouch3 dimensions (5-3/4″ × 4″ square) 📍 Contact Parts4Tubs with your spa pack model number if you’re unsure

⚠️ Important: The SpaTouch3 uses a 4-pin Molex connector that is specific to Balboa BP series spa packs. It will NOT plug into ML or VL series topside ports. Always verify your spa pack family before ordering.

🖥️ Touchscreen Interface

The SpaTouch3 replaces the entire button-and-overlay paradigm with a software-driven interface. Controls appear as on-screen icons that can be tapped or swiped, and the available controls automatically adapt to your specific spa pack configuration.

Typical Touchscreen Functions:

Function	Description
Temperature Set	Tap to adjust set water temperature in °F
Pumps	On-screen icons for each jet pump (1, 2, 3, etc.)
Blower	Tap to control the air blower (if equipped)
Light	Tap to toggle and cycle spa light modes
Mode	Switch between Standard, Economy, and Sleep modes
Filter Cycle	Configure filtration schedule
Time	Set the system clock
Sleep Button	Single tap puts the screen to sleep
Maintenance Reminders	On-screen alerts for scheduled service
Error Codes	Diagnostic codes from the spa pack

Display Features:

• 🖥️ Full-color premium TFT display
• 🖥️ 2× brighter than the SpaTouch2 generation
• 🖥️ Capacitive touch (similar to a smartphone) — works reliably with wet fingers
• 🖥️ Adaptive interface adjusts to spa pack feature set
• 🖥️ Compatible with Balboa bba™2 Bluetooth Audio for music control overlay

📌 Specific on-screen menus and available functions vary by your spa pack’s configuration and firmware. The spa pack tells the SpaTouch3 which icons to display.

🛠️ Installation Guide

Before Installation:

• ⚠️ Disconnect power at the GFCI breaker before any work
• ⚠️ Confirm your spa pack is a Balboa BP series model
• ⚠️ Verify the 7-foot cable will reach from the topside cutout to the spa pack — order an extension if needed
• ⚠️ Check the cutout size matches 5″ × 3-5/16″

Installation Steps:

1. Turn off power at the GFCI / disconnect serving the spa
2. Open the spa cabinet and locate the topside cable on the spa pack
3. Disconnect the old topside cable from the spa pack
4. Remove the old topside from the spa shell cutout
5. Route the new SpaTouch3 cable through the cabinet to the spa pack
6. Plug the new 4-pin Molex into the spa pack topside port
7. Mount the new SpaTouch3 in the spa shell cutout — apply silicone sealant around the panel edge if recommended by your spa manufacturer
8. Restore power at the breaker
9. Allow the panel to boot up (the screen will initialize and pair with the spa pack)
10. Test all functions by tapping each on-screen icon

Cutout Specifications:

Requirement	Specification
Hole size	5″ × 3-5/16″
Panel size	5-3/4″ × 4″ (square)
Mounting type	Drop-in / surface-mounted with sealant

⚠️ Professional installation by a licensed electrician is recommended if you’re unfamiliar with spa electronics. All work must comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes.

⚡ Wiring & Connection

Connector Information:

Specification	Detail
Connector Type	4-Pin Molex
Cable Length	7 ft standard
Extension Available	Yes — Balboa 4-pin Molex extensions in 7 ft, 25 ft, and 50 ft (25662, _25662-1, _30-25662-25, _30-25662-50)

Connection Location:

Plugs into the dedicated topside / spaside port on Balboa BP series spa packs.
The same port is used for the WiFi module on some BP systems.

⚠️ Never force the connector. The 4-pin Molex plug should slide in cleanly. If it doesn’t fit, your spa pack is likely not a BP series — verify before proceeding.

⚠️ Troubleshooting

Common Issues:

Problem	Possible Cause	Solution
Blank screen	No power or loose cable	Verify breaker on; reseat the 4-pin Molex plug at the spa pack
Screen on but unresponsive	Touchscreen needs reset	Cycle power at the breaker for 30 seconds
Screen shows error code	Spa pack issue (sensor, flow, heater)	Refer to your BP series manual for code meanings
Some functions missing	Spa pack configuration	Normal — display adapts to your spa pack’s enabled features
Incorrect temperature reading	Sensor fault on spa pack (not topside)	Check temperature sensor and high-limit sensor
Won’t pair with bba™2 audio	Firmware version	Check that bba™2 firmware is current

Error Codes:

Error codes are generated by the spa pack, not the topside.
Refer to your specific BP series spa pack manual for code definitions.

🔧 Maintenance & Care

Routine Care:

Task	Frequency
Wipe screen with soft damp cloth	Weekly
Check touch responsiveness	Monthly
Inspect cable connection	Annually
Inspect bezel for water seal	Annually

DO NOT:

• ❌ Use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on the touchscreen
• ❌ Submerge the panel in water or chemicals
• ❌ Use solvent-based cleaners (acetone, alcohol, lacquer thinner, etc.) on the screen
• ❌ Press the screen with sharp objects (pens, keys, fingernails)
• ❌ Apply third-party screen protectors not designed for SpaTouch3

📌 For stubborn smudges, a microfiber cloth dampened with plain water is ideal — exactly what you’d use to clean a smartphone screen.

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is an overlay required? A: No — the SpaTouch3 is a complete touchscreen unit. Unlike Balboa’s ML or VL series button panels, there is no separate overlay sticker. All controls appear directly on the color touchscreen.

Q: How do I know if this fits my spa? A: Check your spa pack model — it must start with “BP” (e.g., BP501G1, BP2000, BP7). Your existing topside cable must have a 4-pin Molex connector. If both are true, this will fit.

Q: What’s the difference between G8535, G8535-01, and G8535-03? A: They are all production revisions of the same physical clear-frame SpaTouch3 panel. G8535-03 is the current revision; older units may have shipped as G8535 or G8535-01. They are functionally interchangeable.

Q: Can I use this to replace my SpaTouch1 or SpaTouch2? A: Yes — the SpaTouch3 is the universal replacement for older SpaTouch panels on BP series spa packs. However, if your old panel was trapezoidal (SpaTouch1) or oval, you may need an adapter bezel since the SpaTouch3 is square. Contact Parts4Tubs to confirm.

Q: What’s the cable length? A: The cable is 7 feet long with a 4-pin Molex connector. If you need more reach, Balboa offers 25 ft and 50 ft extensions

Q: Will this work with my 120V or 240V spa? A: Yes — the topside itself runs on low-voltage signal from the spa pack, so it works regardless of whether your spa pack is wired for 120V or 240V service.

Q: Is the touchscreen waterproof? A: The SpaTouch3 uses water-friendly capacitive touch technology designed to remain responsive in spa environments — including with wet fingers. The bezel and screen are sealed against typical splashing, but the panel is not designed for full submersion.

Q: Will it work with Balboa’s Bluetooth audio system? A: Yes — the SpaTouch3 is icon-driven and compatible with the Balboa bba™2 Bluetooth audio system, allowing audio control through the touchscreen.

Q: Why does my spa pack show different on-screen icons than another spa with the same SpaTouch3? A: That’s normal — the SpaTouch3 reads the configuration from your specific spa pack and only displays the icons relevant to your installed equipment (number of pumps, blower presence, light type, etc.).

Q: Can I install this myself? A: If you’re comfortable safely shutting off power at the GFCI breaker and working inside the spa cabinet, DIY installation is possible. If you’re not, a licensed electrician is recommended for NEC and local code compliance.

Q: What warranty is included? A: This part carries a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty from Balboa Water Group. Contact Parts4Tubs for full warranty terms.

Q: Do you ship across the US? A: Yes — Parts4Tubs ships to all 50 states with fast US delivery.

Balboa BP Spa Packs

If you have a “BP” spa pack, you will find the name and model on the label, then you can use any of the “TP” range of topside controls, TP400, TP600 etc etc.

You can also use any of the “Spa Touch” graphical controllers on your Spa Pack. Spa Touch comes in versions 1-3 with 4 to be released very soon as well as the new “mini”.

The BP Spa Pack made things nice and easy so when you are replacing your topside control with one of these, it is straight forward enough.

Balboa VS & GS Spa Packs.

If you have an older hot tub that you are keeping alive with new parts, then the chances are you have an older spa pack in there too. This is where it gets a little more complicated in terms of compatibility.

Two of the popular models are the VS which stands for Value Series and was supplied to a lot of OEMs (manufacturers for hot tubs) to go into their tubs. Likewise, the GS (global series) was the same. Lots of different rebranded options, different names, but at the heart of things are these two packs.

What is key on these two models, is the combination of letters and numbers that make up the model number on the Spa Pack.

The VL range of topside controls was designed for both of these spa pack ranges; however, there are some “rules” we need to abide by in terms of compatibility.

VL Panels ending in D work with VS/GS systems ending in DZ

VL Panels ending in S work with VS/GS systems ending in SZ

The rest of the VL Panels work with VS/GS systems ending in Z (not SZ or DZ)

For example, a Spa Pack model VS501SZ would work nicely with a Topside that is model VL620S. However, that same topside control would not work with a spa pack model VS501Z. The connections are the same, it would plug in, but would not respond at all.

Another example, a Balboa GS500Z spa pack would work with the VL406T or the VL401 but would not work with the VL702S.

You get the patters. Topside ends in S or D, matches to Spa Pack ending in SZ (for S) or DZ (for D).

Balboa EL & GL Spa Packs

Before the birth of the BP range, the EL and GL Spa Packs did have some level of standardisation in terms of the topside controls.

All of the “ML” range of Balboa Topside Controls are designed to work with the EL and GL range of spa packs. They actually look very similar to the TP range, they just have a different type of connection to plug into the Spa Pack.

What is a Hot Tub Topside Control?

A Hot Tub Topside Control, also known as a spa control panel or topside controller, is a user interface located on the outer surface of a hot tub or spa. This control panel allows you to interact with and manage various functions of your hot tub, such as adjusting the temperature, activating jets and pumps, setting filtration cycles, controlling lighting, and more. It serves as the command center that puts the power of customization at your fingertips, enabling you to create the perfect spa experience tailored to your preferences.

Typically equipped with a digital display, buttons, and possibly a touchscreen, a topside control panel provides an intuitive and user-friendly way to operate your hot tub. Some advanced models may even offer wireless connectivity, allowing you to control your hot tub remotely through a smartphone app.

The rest of this page covers what a topside control does, how it talks to the circuit board in your spa pack, and whether you can upgrade to a different panel.

How does a Topside Control Work?

A Hot Tub Topside Control, often equipped with a digital display and user-friendly buttons, is the primary interface that allows you to interact with and control various functions of your hot tub. Here's how it works:

1. User Interface: The topside control panel is mounted on the exterior of the hot tub, usually within arm's reach when you're seated inside. It features a digital screen that displays relevant information such as water temperature, pump status, and timer settings.
2. Menu Navigation: The control panel presents a menu system that you navigate using the buttons or touchscreen. This menu system provides access to different functions and settings of your hot tub.
3. Temperature Adjustment: One of the key functions of the topside control is temperature regulation. You can adjust the water temperature to your desired level, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing soak.
4. Pump and Jet Control: Through the control panel, you can activate and control the operation of various pumps and jets in your hot tub. This includes turning jets on or off, adjusting their intensity, and controlling the filtration system.
5. Lighting and Auxiliary Features: Many hot tubs come with additional features such as underwater lighting, waterfalls, and music systems. The topside control allows you to manage these features, creating an ambiance that suits your mood.
6. Timer and Programming: Modern topside controls often have programming capabilities, allowing you to set timers for filtration cycles, heating, and other functions. This automation ensures that your hot tub is ready for use when you want it.
7. Error Messages and Diagnostics: In case of any issues or malfunctions, the topside control panel can display error codes or messages. This helps you identify problems and communicate them to technicians for faster and more accurate repairs.
8. User Profiles: Some advanced topside controls offer the option to save user profiles. This is particularly useful if multiple people use the hot tub, as each person can have their preferred settings readily available.

In essence, the topside control serves as the bridge between you and your hot tub's various systems. It allows you to customize your hot tub experience, control its functions, and maintain optimal performance with ease. When it comes to replacing one, the part number matters far more than the look of the panel. A topside has to suit the pack it plugs into and the software that pack is running, so two panels with the same button layout are not necessarily interchangeable. Check the back of the panel first, then the label inside the control box next to the circuit board — the number is usually on one or the other. Note the plug type as well, because the cable and pin count vary between systems.

Can I upgrade a Topside Control?

Yes, you can upgrade a topside control on your hot tub to enjoy enhanced features and improved functionality. Upgrading your topside control can offer several benefits:

1. Advanced Features: Newer topside controls often come with advanced features that may not be available on older models. These features could include improved user interfaces, touchscreens, customizable settings, and compatibility with smart home systems.
2. Ease of Use: Upgraded topside controls may offer a more intuitive and user-friendly interface, making it easier to navigate through menus, adjust settings, and control various functions of your hot tub.
3. Energy Efficiency: Some upgraded controls offer energy-saving modes or programmable timers, allowing you to optimize the operation of your hot tub's components and reduce energy consumption.
4. Compatibility: If you've added new features or components to your hot tub since its original purchase, an upgraded topside control may be necessary to fully integrate and control these additions.
5. Error Detection and Diagnostics: Modern topside controls often have improved diagnostic capabilities, which can help you identify and address issues more efficiently. This can save you time and money on repairs.
6. Remote Access: Certain upgraded topside controls can be connected to mobile apps or home automation systems, allowing you to control your hot tub remotely. This can be especially convenient for preheating your hot tub before you arrive home.
7. Customization: Upgraded controls may offer more customization options, allowing you to tailor your hot tub experience to your preferences, such as personalized user profiles.

Before upgrading your topside control, consider the compatibility with your hot tub model and the specific features you're looking for. Consult your hot tub manufacturer's guidelines or get in touch to ensure a smooth and successful upgrade. At Parts4Tubs.com, I offer a range of topside controls and hot tub parts to help you enhance your hot tub experience. What is a Hot Tub Keypad Overlay?

A hot tub keypad overlay, also known as a spa control panel overlay, is a protective and decorative component used in hot tubs and spas. It typically consists of a thin, clear or colored piece of material, often made of durable plastic or silicone, that is designed to cover and protect the control panel or keypad of the hot tub.

Here's what a hot tub keypad overlay does:

1. Protection: The overlay acts as a protective barrier for the underlying control panel or keypad. It shields the sensitive electronics and buttons from exposure to water, chemicals, UV rays, and physical damage, such as scratches or abrasions. This helps extend the lifespan of the control panel.

2. Enhancement: Many overlays are designed with labels, graphics, and button outlines that enhance the appearance of the control panel. They often include icons or text that provide clear instructions for operating the hot tub, making it user-friendly, especially for those who may not be familiar with the hot tub's functions.

3. Customization: Hot tub keypad overlays can be customized to match the branding or style of the hot tub manufacturer. They may feature the manufacturer's logo, model name, or specific design elements. Some hot tub owners choose to customize overlays to add a personal touch to their spa.

4. Ease of Cleaning: The overlay is easier to clean and maintain than the underlying control panel. Spills, dirt, or chemical residues that come into contact with the overlay can be wiped away without affecting the control panel's functionality.

5. Replacement: Over time, keypad overlays may wear out or become damaged due to exposure to harsh spa conditions. Fortunately, they are relatively easy and cost-effective to replace when needed, allowing you to refresh the appearance of your hot tub's control panel.

When replacing a hot tub keypad overlay, it's essential to choose one that is compatible with your hot tub's make and model to ensure that the button layout and functions match the original control panel. This compatibility ensures that the overlay fits correctly and accurately represents the hot tub's settings.

In summary, a hot tub keypad overlay serves as a protective, decorative, and informative layer for the control panel, enhancing the user experience and prolonging the life of the hot tub's control system.

How do you replace a hot tub keypad overlay?

Replacing a hot tub keypad overlay is generally a straightforward process that can be done with some basic tools and careful attention. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to replace a hot tub keypad overlay:

Tools and Materials Needed:

• New keypad overlay (ensure it's compatible with your hot tub model)
• Screwdriver (usually a Phillips-head)
• Mild cleaner or rubbing alcohol
• Soft cloth or paper towels

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Turn Off Power: Start by turning off the power to your hot tub. This is essential for safety reasons.

2. Access the Control Panel: Depending on your hot tub's design, you may need to remove a cover or panel to access the control panel. Use a screwdriver to remove any screws or fasteners holding the cover in place.

3. Remove the Old Overlay: Carefully peel off the old keypad overlay. Begin at one corner and gently lift it away from the control panel. Take your time and be cautious not to damage the control panel or its components.

4. Clean the Control Panel: After removing the old overlay, use a soft cloth or paper towel and a mild cleaner or rubbing alcohol to clean the control panel's surface. This step ensures that the new overlay adheres properly and looks clean.

5. Prepare the New Overlay: Ensure that the new hot tub keypad overlay is clean and free of any dust or debris. If the new overlay has an adhesive backing, remove the protective film to expose the adhesive.

6. Align and Apply the New Overlay: Carefully align the new overlay with the control panel. Make sure it matches the button layout and design of the control panel. Begin by aligning one corner and gradually press the overlay onto the control panel's surface, working your way across. Smooth out the overlay to prevent air bubbles or wrinkles.

7. Secure the Control Panel Cover: If you had to remove a cover or panel to access the control panel, reattach it using the screws or fasteners you removed earlier.

8. Turn On Power: Once the new overlay is securely in place, and the control panel cover is reattached, turn the power back on at the main circuit breaker.

9. Test the Keypad: Test the keypad buttons to ensure they function correctly. Press each button to verify that it corresponds to the correct function on the hot tub.

10. Final Cleaning: After installation and testing, wipe down the new overlay with a clean, dry cloth to remove any fingerprints or residue.

You've now successfully replaced your hot tub's keypad overlay. Make sure to use a compatible overlay, and exercise caution during the replacement process to avoid damaging the control panel.
