💧 Waterway Uni-Might Spa Circulation Pump — 1/8 HP 230V 48-Frame 1-1/2″ MBT | 3410020-1X86

Unique in-line suction and discharge design for compact spa installations

♨️ Product Overview

The Waterway Uni-Might is a 1/8 HP, 230V, 48-frame circulation pump with a design feature found on no other pump in the Waterway lineup: both the suction and discharge connections are aligned on the same axis — both exiting from the top of the wet end. This in-line configuration makes the Uni-Might the ideal choice for compact equipment bays where standard center-suction / side-discharge pumps simply won’t fit, and for spa manufacturers who route their plumbing in a straight line through the pump.

Built on the same proven 48-frame motor platform as its cousin the Waterway Iron Might, the Uni-Might delivers 40 GPM at just 0.8A draw on 230V/60Hz, running at 1725 RPM for reliable 24-hour continuous-duty circulation. The volute can be rotated to four positions (12:00, 3:00, 6:00, or 9:00) to align with existing plumbing, and the pump uses high-quality Viton seals for long-lasting chemical resistance in treated spa water.

The Uni-Might serves as a direct replacement for the Aqua-Flo FMVP and CMVP circulation pumps and is the OEM circulation pump in Hawkeye and Barefoot Spas. Connections are standard 1-1/2″ MBT (measuring 2-3/8″ OD). Unions and power cord are sold separately. Backed by Waterway’s commitment to American-designed quality and a 1-year manufacturer warranty.

⚡ Electrical Requirements

⚠️ IMPORTANT:

All electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes. Hot tubs require GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection. A dedicated circuit is required — do not share with other appliances.

⚠️ AMPERAGE MATCHING TIP: When matching pumps for replacement, always use amperage rather than horsepower. Many times the labeled horsepower does not accurately represent actual horsepower. Match the amperage draw to ensure your control system and wiring are compatible.

🔄 Compatibility Guide

⚠️ CRITICAL — Uni-Might vs Iron Might — Different Port Configurations

The Waterway Uni-Might and Iron Might share the same motor and deliver the same flow rate, but they have completely different wet end configurations and are NOT interchangeable without modifying your plumbing.

Feature	Uni-Might (This Pump)	Iron Might
Suction Location	Top	Center (Front Face)
Discharge Location	Top — In-Line with Suction	Side
Port Alignment	In-Line (Same Axis)	90° Offset
Best For	Compact / in-line plumbing	Standard spa installations
Flow Rate	40 GPM	40 GPM
Voltage / Amperage	230V / 0.8A	230V / 0.8A

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes the Uni-Might different from the Iron Might? A: The port configuration. The Uni-Might has both suction and discharge on top, aligned on the same axis (in-line). The Iron Might has center suction on the front face and side discharge. Both use the same 48-frame motor and deliver 40 GPM at 0.8A. Choose based on your plumbing layout — they are NOT interchangeable without replumbing.

Q: Is this 1/8 HP or 1/15 HP? A: Both ratings refer to this same pump. The difference is the rating methodology — 1/8 HP reflects brake horsepower while 1/15 HP reflects continuous duty horsepower. The pump draws 0.8A at 230V and delivers 40 GPM regardless of which HP rating is listed.

Q: Does this come with unions? A: No. Unions are sold separately. You need 1-1/2″ MBT unions (2-3/8″ OD). The tailpiece o-ring gasket is part number 711-4050.

Q: Does this come with a power cord? A: No. Reuse the cord from your existing pump or purchase a compatible cord separately (AMP, mini J&J, or in.link connectors available).

Q: Can the volute be rotated? A: Yes. The volute rotates to four positions (12:00, 3:00, 6:00, or 9:00) by removing and reinstalling the fastening screws.

Q: Will this replace an Aqua-Flo FMVP? A: Yes. The Waterway Uni-Might is the direct replacement for the Aqua-Flo FMVP and CMVP circulation pumps. Verify that the in-line (top/top) port configuration matches your existing plumbing.

Q: What voltage does this require? A: 230V / 50/60Hz. This pump works on both 50Hz and 60Hz power (at 60Hz: 1725 RPM / 0.8A; at 50Hz: 1450 RPM / higher amperage). Verify your spa’s electrical supply before ordering. A 115V version is also available (3410030-1X).

Q: What are the dimensions? A: Approximately 13.2″ long × 6.5″ wide × 8.4″ tall (335mm × 166mm × 214mm).

Q: How do I know if I need a Uni-Might or Iron Might? A: Look at your current pump. If both pipes go straight up from the top of the pump in a line, you need the Uni-Might. If one pipe comes out the front and one from the side, you need the Iron Might.

Q: Do I need a GFCI breaker? A: Yes. GFCI protection is required by the National Electrical Code (NEC) for all hot tub and spa installations.

Q: What warranty is included? A: 1-year manufacturer warranty from Waterway Plastics. Contact Parts4Tubs for full terms.
