Laing E10 Spa Circulation Pump — 115V 1-Speed 3/4″ Barb for Sundance & Jacuzzi Spas | 6500-460

💧 Laing E10 Spa Circulation Pump — 115V 1-Speed 3/4″ Barb for Sundance & Jacuzzi Spas | 6500-460

Compact, whisper-quiet ECM circulation with dry run protection — the OEM pump for Sundance and Jacuzzi 115V spas

♨️ Product Overview

The Laing E10 (6500-460) is a 115V, single-speed, 3/4″ barb circulation pump designed as the OEM circulation pump for Sundance and Jacuzzi spas that operate on 115/120V power. Powered by a highly efficient Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM) with the latest EC technology, this pump draws only 65 watts of power — consuming 40% less energy than standard induction motor pumps. The E10 is shaftless, seal-less, and leak-proof by design — the magnetically driven open impeller eliminates the shaft seal entirely, meaning there is no seal to leak or replace. The built-in dry run protection automatically protects the motor if the pump runs without water, and the soft start (approximately 3 seconds) reduces stress on electrical components. Weighing only 4 lbs and operating at less than 50 dB, this compact pump fits in tight equipment bays and runs virtually silent during 24-hour continuous circulation. The pump includes a 4-foot power cord with terminated ends (spade connectors) and a mounting bracket, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically (motor end down). The clog-resistant open impeller is dynamically balanced with a carbon bearing for smooth, ultra-quiet operation. The E10 is a direct field replacement for all older Laing SM-909 series pumps, Laing E5 models, and numerous OEM spa brand circulation pumps.

⚡ Electrical Requirements

⚠️ CRITICAL VOLTAGE WARNING:

This is a 115/120V pump ONLY. Most Sundance and Jacuzzi spas operate on 230V — verify the voltage on your existing pump label before ordering. Sundance uses the same white/black/green wire colors for both 115V and 230V systems — wire color does NOT indicate voltage. For 230V Sundance/Jacuzzi spas, use part number 6000-125 instead.

⚠️ IMPORTANT ELECTRICAL SAFETY:

All electrical installations must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes. Hot tubs require GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection. A dedicated circuit is required — do not share with other appliances.

Replacement History — SM-909 Series

The Laing E10 is the current-production field replacement for the discontinued SM-909 series circulation pumps. If your existing pump has an SM-909 part number, this E10 is the correct replacement.

Original SM-909 Model	Cord Length	This E10 Replaces It
SM-909-NHW-14	14″ cord	✅ Yes
SM-909-NHW-18	18″ cord	✅ Yes

SM-1212-NHW-26	26″ cord	✅ Yes

💡 Cord Length Note: The E10 comes with a 4-foot (48″) cord. Older SM-909 models had shorter cords (14″, 18″, 26″). The E10’s longer 4′ cord provides more flexibility for installation. If the cord is too long, excess can be managed; if your original was very short, the E10’s longer cord is an advantage.

Discharge	3/4″ barb	Connects to 3/4″ ID vinyl tubing
Tubing	3/4″ ID clear vinyl tubing	Secure with hose clamps

Installation Notes

⚠️ Verify Voltage First: Confirm your existing pump operates on 115V/120V — NOT 230V. Check the label on your old pump. Most Sundance/Jacuzzi spas use 230V.

⚠️ Wiring: 3-wire connection — hot, neutral, ground. Cord terminates with spade connectors.

⚠️ First Startup: The pump has a soft start (approximately 3 seconds). The impeller may rotate slowly at first until water penetrates the bearings — this is normal.

⚠️ Dry Run Protection: Built-in electronic protection activates if pump runs without water. However, always ensure pump is primed and submerged below water level before startup.

⚠️ Mounting Orientation: Horizontal or vertical with motor end DOWN only. Do not mount with motor end up.

⚠️ SM-909 Replacement: If replacing an SM-909, the E10’s 4′ cord is longer than the original SM-909 cords (14″-26″). Route excess cord safely.

⚠️ GFCI Protection Required: All spa installations require GFCI protection per the NEC.

⚠️ Bonding & Grounding Required: Per NEC requirements.

⚙️ Maintenance Guide

Routine Maintenance

Task	Frequency	Notes
Check for water flow	Monthly	Verify circulation is active
Inspect barb connections	Monthly	Check for leaks at hose clamp connections
Listen for unusual noise	Monthly	Should be nearly silent (less than 50 dB)
Inspect cord and connections	Quarterly	Check spade connectors and cord condition
Check mounting bracket	Quarterly	Ensure pump is secure
Verify GFCI operation	Monthly	Test button check

Warning Signs — Replace Pump If:

• Pump fails to start or hums without rotation
• Unusual noise (clicking, grinding, buzzing)
• No water circulation despite pump running
• Motor trips breaker or GFCI repeatedly
• Pump vibrating excessively
• Dry run protection activating frequently (indicates plumbing issue)
• Error codes on spa controller related to circulation (FL1, FLO, etc.)

Seal-Free Design Advantage

Unlike traditional circulation pumps with mechanical shaft seals, the Laing E10 uses a magnetically driven impeller — there is no shaft seal to leak, wear, or replace. This eliminates one of the most common failure points in spa pumps. If you see water leaking from this pump, it indicates a cracked housing or failed barb connection — not a seal issue.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this the right pump for my Sundance spa? A: Only if your Sundance spa uses a 115V/120V circulation pump with 3/4″ barb connections. Most Sundance spas use 230V — check the voltage label on your existing pump. If your spa is 230V, you need part number 6000-125 instead.

Q: How do I know if my spa uses 115V or 230V? A: Check the label on your existing circulation pump — it will show the voltage. Do NOT rely on wire colors — Sundance uses white/black/green wires for both 115V and 230V systems.

Q: Will this replace my Jacuzzi J-300 series circulation pump? A: Yes — for 115V Jacuzzi J-300 models (J-310, J-315, J-320, J-325) made after 2002. This pump also replaces Jacuzzi part number 6500-038. Verify 115V before ordering.

Q: Does this pump have a shaft seal that can leak? A: No — this is a key advantage of the Laing E10. The impeller is magnetically driven — there is no shaft seal to leak, wear, or replace. The pump is shaftless, seal-less, and leak-proof by design.

Q: Does this pump have dry run protection? A: Yes — built-in electronic dry run protection activates automatically if the pump runs without water, preventing motor damage.

Q: Is a cord included? A: Yes — a 4-foot power cord is included with 3-wire terminated ends (spade connectors). A mounting bracket is also included.

Q: Can I mount this pump vertically? A: Yes — the E10 can be mounted horizontally or vertically with the motor end facing down. Do NOT mount with motor end up.

Q: Will this replace my old SM-909 pump? A: Yes — the Laing E10 is the current-production field replacement for all discontinued SM-909-NHW and SM-1212-NHW series circulation pumps with 3/4″ barb connections.

Q: How quiet is this pump? A: Very quiet — rated at less than 50 dB. Customer reviews consistently describe it as whisper-quiet and nearly silent during 24/7 operation.

Q: What is the flow rate? A: Maximum approximately 10-11 GPM depending on plumbing conditions. This is sufficient for low-flow heater circulation and filtration in most spas.

Q: Is there a Grundfos alternative? A: Yes — the Grundfos 10-0139-KIT (115V, 3-speed, universal kit) is designed as a universal replacement for this Laing E10 and includes a complete plumbing kit with 3/4″ and 1″ barb adapters. Available separately at Parts4Tubs.

Q: Is there a lower-cost alternative? A: Yes — the LX WE10-120V offers the same performance and function at a lower price point. Contact Parts4Tubs for availability.

Q: Do I need a GFCI breaker? A: Yes — GFCI protection is required by the NEC for all hot tub and spa installations.

Q: What warranty is included? A: 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. Contact Parts4Tubs for full terms.
